This is an exquisite old Kutani Charger that is masterfully painted with the most amazing detail, painstaking care, and traditional “Old Kutani” palette. The charger has a signature on the bottom. The charger depicts two fierce Samurai warriors in a garden or courtyard setting with cloth courtyard walls and trees in the background. The Samurai are resplendent in their colorful uniforms and their swords. The inside rim design is most unusual and beautiful with delicate flowers, leaves, brocade patterns and butterflies of different colors and sizes all around the plate. The rim is gold and a great deal of gold is found on both sides of the charger. The outside rim has a simple repetitive pattern done in orange, brown, and gold trim. This gorgeous charger is in pristine condition and has no chips, cracks, hairlines, or restorations and has no gold loss to the rim or anywhere else as would be expected for an item 100 years old! This has been one of the most desirable Kutani chargers that I have seen during the many years I spent in the Far East, and it has been the centerpiece of my collection for the past 40+ years.
