Dating from the late 1800s it is beautifully worked oil on canvas backed with a strong wooden panel. I think the metal loops on the back of the wooden panel would have been to slide flag poles when the panel was wall mounted. The oil on canvas panel still has the most wonderful colours and although it is a little watermarked  and distressed around the edges commensurate with age, it does not detract and the sign is full of character. The panel measures 23" (58.5cms) in diameter and extends 3" (7.5cms) from the wall.
