Description
This is a very rare Wellworth Piccolo in C - my father gave this instrument to me which has been in the family for quite some time.  In our research, we believe it was made in the early/mid 1800's and tracked back to Manchester England.  The imprinting on the body is "Wellworth & Co", Patented", "Manchester (ENG)", "A.R.M".   It is made out of rosewood and has silver key work - this instrument is gorgeous if you are a rosewood fan.  The pictures I have uploaded on eBay do no justice for it - please ask me to send originals and any other pictures of the instrument you would like to see.  I played this instrument from 1975 - 1979 in mostly orchestral settings and never played it outside.  When I had this instrument in top shape it played with such a soft/mellow sound in the lower register and so sweet in the higher register - all very responsive.  The case is original made of wood and leather (only slightly tattered) the latches also work on the case. Although I have not played this instrument regularly since 1979 it was carefully stored away.  However, I played this instrument today (11/30) it does have a perfect pitch on the notes I could play (D,C,B,A) and is 440 confirmed.  There was work at some point to extent the headjoint to lower the pitch to 440 (which is common) as you will see between the headjoint and the body.  Even as I opened the case today - the smell of the instrument is just so sweet.  There is only minimal wear and tear on this instrument - the key work is nearly perfect and solid.  The rose wood has one hairline crack on the headjoint which has never effected the playing of this instrument and has not grown since I have had this instrument - otherwise no cracks elsewhere.  If someone were to have it carefully restored you would have a fine playing instrument that would become one of your favorite instruments to play as it was mine.  Please, only to a good home who will savor its beauty and sound.   Check out my other items!
