Anasazi pieces are highly coveted by institutions and collectors alike and they are rarely encountered in such a state of preservation.  Because sandals are made from organic material, Yucca fibers, and are subject to decay, they rarely survive.     This sandal.has been in my family for over 50 years, and was found on private property in the 4-corners area. The distinguishing characteristics which date this piece to 400 A.D. are the scalloped toe, puckered heel and side ties on the top of the sandal. The obverse side though is what really distinguishes this piece, the use of a woven construction technique utilizing a combination of plain weaving and twining on the sole, to exhibit an intricate design.   One cannot overstate the rarity of an item like this, noting that it is in pristine condition, absolutely no rips, tears or holes nor any restoration.   Length 10 inches, width 4 ½ inches 1 Twisted 2-Cordage toe loop, 8 Twisted 2-cordage side loops   Additional information on request.
