RARE 1940's Mennonite Rough Collie Dog Hooked Rug CIRCA 1940's     Lovely beautiful hooked rug. I purchased this at an upscale antique show 20 years ago. The antique dealer I purchased this from told me it was made in Canada in the 1940's by a Mennonite woman. It absolutely is exquisite. The workmanship and quality is uncompared. Colors of plums, blues, burgundy, reds, white, mauves in a striped pattern horizontally. There are two types of materials used in the hooking. The striped area is made of fabric that reminds me of what is used to make rag rugs. The collie dog is made of a wool type yarn. The hooking is so tight and exactly perfect each hook and loop. I'm not sure of the correct terminology but I'm sure it took many many hours to create. The gorgeous rough collie dog is standing. He is a tan/beige color. This rug is mounted on a plywood backing which I covered with a plum/purple fabric and attached a wire picture hanger. I never used this on the floor. It is clean and I see a tiny bit of wear on the edges where some of the rag rug fabric is wearing. Otherwise, I see no visual damage. I am a collie lover and owner and I'm parting with this rug from my personal collection, for someone to love as I have for so many years.
