Description
Pre-Columbian EAGLE VESSEL Tetila Teotihuacan, Ca. Pre-Columbian EAGLE VESSEL Tetila Teotihuacan, Ca. DESCRIPTION This gorgeous little vessel is a ceremonial cache. It shows an Eagle on two sides, who is grasping opposing perches. Its wings are fully extended and has a square tong protruding from its beak. There are a pair of eyes watching from the heavens. This Eagle is the same one that appears in a mural at Tetila, Teotihuacan, in the #25 portico (mural 6) you can view it at "Justin Kerr's portfolio" under "Teotihuacan" . This vessel also has 6 miniature High Priest heads arranged around the lower circumference and three Tlaloc figures as feet. It is of earthenware ceramic that was painted white at the upper half, fired and later incised to reveal the images and expose the red clay under the surface. The miniature heads where the product of a mold. The wall thickness is no more than .195" making this piece very delicate. As you can see in the photos this piece has no defects or repairs, it is of museum quality. It stands 3" tall and is 3.100" across. I consider this piece to be of the Early-Classic era, 200-400 AD. This item came from a private collector in the San Francisco area, who started his collection in the late 40's. He was in to Pre-Columbian art and African stone art. John Orbisen passed on a few years ago, and his family asked me to find new collectors that would appreciate these treasures as much as he did. I have featured some of the items in the last photo. I am Joel Hernandez, I have been collecting Pre-Columbian Art since the late 50's and early 60's.
