This particular model is a large specialized device which presents visual images to test and/or improve the interaction between visual imagery and visual perception (i.e., scientific studies of subliminal influence). We can not test this item because we do not have the device that was used to project the images, but in theory, a subject would look into one end of the machine, through a rubber face mask that would block out environmental light, and then be subjected to extremely fast (4 millisecond bursts for a subliminal message) in repeated trials. For example, using a machine such as this one, a very interesting study was done by a Professor Lloyd Silverman, who worked in psychodynamics with the seriously mental ill. Silverman not only utilized subliminal imagery but also subliminal messaging ... and in one study he bombarded subjects with the message "Mommy and I are One.") Seriously. It does show some wear, but the hinges on the light boxes rust free and the wiring appears to be good. It is missing a leg, which is why we have it propped on a padded grey foot, but the legs in use here are the standard furniture legs from your typical 40s-50s era furniture. There are no cracks in the viewing glass, and there is a tiny etching in the wood from the name of the previous owner.
