A bit of History: Levi Todd=s ancestors were persecuted Scottish Covenanters, forced to flee to the north of Ireland by Charles II and the established Church of England, later immigrating to America. February 25, 1779, Levi married Jane "Betsy" Briggs at fort St. Asaph=s in Lincoln County, Kentucky. That same year Levi founded Todd=s Station, and was appointed the first clerk of the first court in Fayette County which was considered the real West. In 1780 Levi bought land and build Ellerslie in Lexington. In Mary=s day men called Lexington the Athens of the west. Locally known as General Levi Todd, this early pioneer became involved with many military operations, at one time succeeding the now legendary Colonel Daniel Boone as Commander of the Kentucky Militia.   The next two documents entail the sale of two slaves and other personal property in Kentucky. The first signed September 22, 1799 by Andrew W. McDonald, in the presents of Samuel Trenham Senior, & Edward Chenoweth.   The second signed by William McDonald in 1800 this confirms this sale.
