The construction is all brass lacquered black and natural with a fine matured gold finish. The fishtail stand is engraved J.Swift & Son London with the number 15836 on the underside. Coarse focusing is by rack & pinion, fine by double millhead and micrometer screw.  The tube has a nickel plated calibrated draw and a nickel plated triple changer. The square stage sports the trademark Swift grid and two clips. The substage focuses and comprises an Abbe condenser, iris diaphragm, and filter carrier. The plano-concave mirror is faultless. The lenses are two eyepieces marked II x7 & IV x4; two Swift objectives marked 1/6 & 2/3 with conforming cans, and a 1/12 inch Leitz Oil Immersion with an unmarked brass can. The fine fitted mahogany case has a working lock & key. It measures 13 x 8.5 x 6.5 inches (330 x 210 x 160mm) and weighs 6.5 kg.
