Description
Early Liangzhu Neolithic Jade Pendant 100% Authentic From the collection of Mr. K. C. Bell, San Francisco, California (google: kcbpearls), comes this exquisite early Liangzhu Culture pendant, part of his private 35-year, worldwide-acquired collection. We are proud to have been chosen to be the sole Authenticators and Curators of the Bell Collection for over a year now. While fully expecting next year's reproductions to take on an even more refined look than the masterpieces they are currently producing, this is the 'real thing', and one of the rarest examples of true Liangzhu genius, in the art of Shamanic Ruling Family personal grave effects. For a wonderful comparison artifact please see Mr. Sam Bernstein's tremendous book "Collecting Chinese Art" Plate 7. D-Shaped Plague, and the marvelous detail photograph on the following facing page. I say Early Liangzhu for Mr. Bell's exquisite example because of the finer detailing (which is well known from the earliest pieces of the culture), and the more heavily penetrated, highly mineralized surface, and much higher and longer eyes of the central character. While the Shaman King , or God, is also above the main character, it is much more worn away than the aforementioned cited example, and I personally do not believe this would be from the minerlization, but more due to the longer time spent under burial condition, and the tectonic abrasion which occurs (and no one mentions as a determining factor in approximating age) while underground. Mr. Bell's piece show all the hallmarks of a truly genuine item, lovingly cared for after removal and subsequent cleaning. Original Iron Oxide pigments are still to be easily found inside the suspension holes of this pendant, and have not been removed even under my various cleanings of the item to determine authenticity, as they now adhere to the stone, as they should on a genuine artifact. It has also been re-etched in some places to better show the original designs that accompanied the pendant. Under 35 power, most of the original designs are shown to be worn off due to long term burial, and only in the places that were not re-etched can we find the original artist's etchings, but only in the 'damage zones' under the smoothed designs. These damage zones are well known to contemporary Jade Artists, such as Peter Schilling of "Taking Form Jade". It was with Peter that I discussed the original finding concerning Mr. Bell's Treasure. In the process of 'cutting' jade, the micro-structure of the jade gets microscopically damaged underneath the actual removed portions by the abrasive grits and hard stone engravers. This is not readily known outside of the world of carvers, and to the best of my knowledge has been missed in all the professional texts I have read, so unless other developments and writing on this process of artifact authentication are produced, I consider this to be a copyrighted discovery by us. Please Note: At the end of this listing this item will move to antiquitiesplus.com. Size; 2" wide, 1-1/2" high, 1/4" thick. Knowing full well the controversy surrounding the thousands of reproductions available daily on the Internet, this item will only go through this one auction, and subsequent public displays by us, and all close-up viewing will be subject to being held at our gallery, by expert authenticators and curious amateurs, under close supervision. Size; 2" wide, 1-1/2" high, 1/4" thick. This jade pendant has also been authenticated by Dr. Timothy Jones, PhD, Anthropologist, formerly with the University of Arizona. Dr. Jones has accepted invitations to the world's largest museum in Beijing, and has received privately guided tours of the Beijing Museum, which included some of the most treasured vault items hidden away from the general public. Dr. Jones has directed the excavations and analyses of more than 20 major sites and 40 archaeological surveys. Dr. Jones now runs his own appraisal and authentication business, and is certified RPA-IAA. Dr. Jones can be reached at 520-744-2766. He helps in the verifications of all our later porcelains, as I do for him on the older items of Jades and pottery. He has no vested interest in our business, and we just truly enjoy each others company and knowledge. Pre-Payment Must Be Approved Or Bid Will Be Rejected: Please Call first.
