The sampler is stitched in silk on hand loomed dark linen.  You can see the imperfections in the linen with thin/thick threads that prove it was hand woven. The condition is almost perfect ~ the only flaws I can see are a few missing stitches on the 2 cream rows above and below the signature line. The house is amazing ~ please notice the different stitch used for the roof, and the folky red/mustard checked steps at the front door. When I bought this sampler it was in a very old, badly damaged frame.  I had it reframed in a period looking frame and mounted on acid free paper.  The size framed is 12x16.75 inches.  I would guess that this textile was packed away and never saw daylight, as the colors and condition are bright and pristine.
