Description
Antique William & Mary Red Lacquer Chinoiserie Chest (Click to Enlarge)(Click to Enlarge) This red lacquer Chinoiserie chest in the William and Mary style dates from the 18th century. It measures 33" high, 50" wide and 21.5" deep. Appraised in 1998 by Sotheby's for $7,500. (We will be happy to include a copy of the appraisal at time of purchase.) It features Chinese scenes of figures, pagodas and trees on the top, sides and drawer fronts. It has a valanced apron and five bobbin-turned legs. Bail-handled brasses. This chest comes from the collection of Roni Steinberg Sokoloff, and resided in her former 63-acre estate in Bedford New York known as Cantitoe Farms. (Formerly known as Sycamore Farms, the estate is just down the street from Martha Stewart's estate.)
