Description
For your consideration, a period antique chandelier of impressive size and craftsmanship. For the last 70 years, this chandelier has been stored in 2 large wooden crates packed with excelsior hay and paper. Several months ago, we began to restore and assemble the piece and found all the pieces intact and complete --except one – the "hub" piece (to which the arms attach). Now, the missing piece has been carefully crafted in the style of the era, and this proud chandelier once again hangs majestically for all to appreciate. Unmarked, but unmistakably English in origin, this late Victorian or early Edwardian fixture is exquisitely crafted and probably originated in the studio of F&C Osler or Perry & Co. All visible original metalwork is nickel silver. The braided "rope" style arms are unusually long and extend the eight arms to a 32 inch diameter. Stretching just over 58 inches tall the central shaft is divided into three sections of crystals in a traditional English design. A sizable crystal glass ball hangs from the bottom to provide a stunning visual effect. This piece is for pick up only in New York City. We may be able to accommodate a professional packaging and shipping service as well - please contact me, prior to bidding, for details. It may also be possible to view this piece by appointment only. The current photos are somewhat lacking in detail and do not highlight the lovely proportions and craftsmanship in this chandelier. When viewed in person the elegant effect of this chandelier is apparent. The professional restorer who is working on the chandelier considers the condition to be quite good but it could use a little more work to be perfect.
