Description
gman Store 1930 Waterbury Presentation Ships Clock USS Lexington ".......if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves" --Winston Churchill NEVER GIVE UP YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS! "Sic Semper Tyrannis" We ship worldwide, write for quote. We are very proud to offer a rare and unusual opportunity to own a genuine piece of history. This is a one-of-a-kind presentation piece given to the Lieutenant Commander (ships doctor) on the USS Lexington (CV-2) in 1934. In addition to the clock, we are providing the ships history and a complete provenance in the form of a document printed on parchment signed by the still living son. (A facsimile is shown here with the doctors name obscured with respect for the family.) The winning bidder will receive the original signed document. You will also receive an original 1930's advertisement for the Waterbury "Navigator" used to build this clock. The clock was built aboard ship, in the machine shop using a new 1930 Waterbury "Navigator" Ships bell clock. As well as a presentation piece for the doctor, it is a tribute to the outstanding craftsmanship of the machinists who created it. Using solid blocks of mahogany, they recreated a ship's helm & wheel. (one photo shows a 12" ruler beside the clock for size reference) It stands 17" tall x 15" wide. Wheel measures 13-1/8" in diameter. It is a HEAVY piece weighing in at 11 pounds. The solid brass parts are lathe turned and the actual wheel appears to be some sort of phenolic material. The signed Waterbury trademarque jeweled ships bell movement is in good condition. The clock runs and strikes "ships bells" correctly, however it has not been cleaned or adjusted and stops occasionally. You are bidding on the clock, a key, the original advertisment and the signed parchment provenance. A superb gift or collection centerpiece.
