Description
Here's an outstanding, unmolested SCR74-A trench transmitter, manufactured for the U.S. Signal Corps in 1918 by American Radio and Research Corporation (AMRAD) of Medford Hillside, Massachusetts.  Built to withstand bullets, bomb blasts and pretty much anything else that came its way in the battlefield, the SCR-74a transmitter was an extraordinary instrument that played an essential role in the war effort and a pioneering role in the advancement and development of wireless communications. As you can see in the photographs, this trench set is in excellent condition throughout, especially when you consider the life it must have led.  Original green paint is quite stable and in good shape on all sides, with some ID marks on top and the field nicks you'd expect to see, but no flaking or other progressive issues.  Heavy duty hinges and other brass fittings are all original and in excellent condition, with typical tarnish but no corrosion or other problems.  Original carrying handle/strap is still present and in fantastic condition, sturdy enough to bear the weight of the transmitter even now.   Key is beautiful, as you can see, and it still works great. Meter is original and still has its original undamaged glass.  Original operating instructions and wiring diagram still affixed to the interior of the case cover.  Original tag still present on the cabinet (they were frequently removed when these sets were decommissioned).  No missing binding posts, no missing fittings, no missing anything.  As early wireless field sets go, it doesn't get a lot better than this.  In fact, the only non-original part on the entire set is the little circular rubber cover designed to allow field use while protecting the spark key from rain, snow and other elements. That's about it.  I will double-box the transmitter and pack it carefully and properly.  When closed, the set measures approximately 12" x 12" x 7".  When properly packed, shipping weight will run approximately 25 - 30 lb.   I can assure you that it will show up at your doorstep in the same fine condition in which it leaves mine.  I have been shipping antique phonographs and early wireless sets for years, and if you check my feedback, you'll see that I know how to do it correctly.   Buyer prepays and includes shipping.  Paypal okay.
