Description
Original VINTAGE Circa 1900 Victorian or Edwardian Chocolate Silk Velvet Capelet or Cape; 5Pierced Swirly Leaf Champleve Enameled & Steel Cut Button, EXCELLENT CONDITIONI was fortunate to discover several beautiful vintage clothing items recently. The first one I am offering is a wonderful and original vintage cape or capelet dating from around 1900 or the Victorian/Edwardian era. I found this item at a recent estate sale and it was found buried in a trunk. The cape or capelet is made of a material which I believe is a silk velvet. It has 2 tiered layers, opening for the arms, gathering at the back neck that flares into a pleat. The material is incredibly soft and lush. There is no label and it may have been a custom made item. I believe the size is a petite to small and would probably fit someone who is between a size 2-6 and possibly an 8. The neck opening is very small and measures about 13 1/2". It may be possible to move the buttons closer so the neck opening is larger. The capelet closes with snaps covered by beautiful buttons. The 5 buttons are gorgeous and have a leafy or swirly pattern accented by what I believe are steel cut metal that look like marcasites.. They measure about 7/8" across and are pierced and champleve enameled in shades of brown, white, rose. The buttons are all in excellent condition. This is a wonderful item for the collector of vintage clothing, antique buttons, or for someone who would like to give their special friend an unusual gift. Item: Capelet or cape Color: Chocolate Brown Material: I believe it is silk velvet and the buttons are brass Maker: Unknown Age: circa 1900;s , Victorian or Edwardian era Size: estimated ladies 2-6 or 8, shoulder length from neck to bottom edge is about 19"; bottom hem measures about 113"; each tier is 8" deep, arm opening is 7 1/2" long, neck opening measures about 13 1/2" around and 13" from top button to bottom edge, length from top of back neck to bottom edge is 19". Description: chocolate brown silk velvet cape or capelet with snap closure and seven 7/8" pierced enameled and steel cut buttons in tones of brown, white and rose; capelet has two tiers and opening for arms and a pleated back with a gathered back neckline; it has not been cleaned and does not have any odor.
