Description
A rare and important French Louis XV Bombe Commode, circa 1745 to 1760 in walnut and pearwood. Having a moulded case with curving sides and serpentine front, three dovetailed drawers, bronze hardware, a carved latticework apron, and resting on carved hairy hoof feet. When viewed from the front, it has a form reminiscent of a woman's hourglass form, and when viewed from the side, the front has a profile that's the same as a wave upon the water. Measures: 32" tall 50" wide 25.5" deep. See detailed pictures below. PLEASE EMAIL FOR SHIPPING QUOTE, THANK YOU! The high bidder pays shipping/handling and insurance with an U.S. Money Order or Cashiers check or most credit cards. Please allow 10 days for personal checks to clear. Check out our web sight for more Fine Art, Furniture, and many other wonderful things at Stillwell House Antiques. Please email with any questions BEFORE bidding. Good luck!! The profile of the front of this piece as viewed from the side is serpentine and carved in the shape of a wave, with the top drawer curving out, the middle drawer curving in, and the bottom drawer which curves out again, but more flattened than the top drawer; reminiscent of the profile of a wave upon the water. A carved Tree of Life is above each foot. The hourglass shape of the sides is said to be inspired by the curves of a woman's body. Carved bellflowers, which symbolize gratitude..
