Description
18TH CENTURY FRENCH NEEDLEPOINT/PETITPOINT PILLOW~FIGURAL   OMG! This French needlepoint/petitpoint pillow is killer. This is a really really old needlepoint. When I purchased the needlepoint, it was described as being form the 1780’s. From the looks of it, I believe it. The subject is a European looking gentleman in 18th century attire (sword included) all done in petitpoint. Notice the great detail in his face and hair. The floral design around the gentleman is done in wool needlepoint. The background stitches have either worn away because they were perhaps done in silk or maybe they never existed which was very common for that period. In any case this gives a three dimensional appearance because the subject looks like it is raised off the background. The colors are all muted grays, browns, beiges, tans and more. The needlepoint measures 10” x 11” and is in good condition for its age. Around the needlepoint is a vintage metallic French trim. It is on a butter colored cotton velvet. Around the pillow there is a tri-color (beige, gold and brown) tassel trim with a gorgeous detailed header. The back is done in the same velvet. The pillow measures approx. 19”x 19” stuffed. There is a zipper at the bottom for your convenience with a feather and down insert for a plush look and feel. The entire pillow is lined for extra durability. This is truly a gem of a pillow. It is in excellent newly created condition and comes from a smoke free home. Please check out my eBay store for lots more one-of-a-kind pillows. Thanks for looking.
