Description
Atlas of Nelson & Spencer Counties, Kentucky 1882 This abridged Atlas CD contains high resolution digital images of vintage 1882 Nelson and Spencer county Kentucky maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). All 1882 Nelson and Spencer county precinct maps are included on this CD, as are many town and village plan maps from this period. Individual Precinct maps are useful for identifying 1882 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages and 19th century Kentucky County place names. Property ownership is noted throughout the precinct level maps. Nelson County Precincts: Balltown (precinct 8), Bardstown (precinct 1), Bardstown (precinct 9), Bloomfield (precinct 3), Boston (precinct 6), Botland (precinct 13), Chaplin (precinct 2), Fairfield (precinct 4), High Grove (precinct 10), Nelsonville (precinct 12), New Haven (precinct 7), New Holt (precinct 11) and Samuel’s Depot (precinct 5). Spencer County Precincts: Camp Branch (precinct 4), Elk Creek (precinct 5), Goodwin Spring (precinct 6), Little Mount (precinct 7), Mount Eden (precinct 2), Taylorsville (precinct 1) and Waterford (precinct 3). Historic town and village plan maps found in the Atlas are generally more detailed with many early lots and property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of factories, distilleries and mills; State and local government sites: stores, businesses, cemeteries, churches, fair grounds, hospitals and much more. Nelson County Towns and villages: Bardstown, Bloomfield, Botland P.O., Boston, Chaplin, Fairfield, Nelsonville, New Haven, New Hope and Samuel’s Depot. Spencer County Towns and Villages: Mount Eden, Taylorsville, Waterford and Wilsonville. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. Each atlas includes many 19th century map features such as: toll roads, railroads and canals post offices and government sites schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries rivers, streams and ferries race tracks, fair grounds and picnic groves industrial sites, furnaces, distilleries and mills early property ownership, homesteads and farms-and much, much more The abridged Atlas of Nelson and Spencer Counties, Kentucky may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Nelson and Spencer County places and place names. These early maps often contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time; the location of property owners, businesses, churches and cemeteries may assist genealogical researchers interested in Kentucky history. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. The map data has been created and configured using the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0) for MS Windows (98, 98SE, XP, NT and 2000).
