Auction Wizard 2000 Listing Template - AW2KLOT#:18633 Destiny Publications Welcomes You To The Virtual Antique & Bottle Shop Members of Ebay's Power Sellers Program ~ DISCOUNT ~ We'll combine multiple items to save on shipping fees! This is a second edition of Jabez Hogg's classic THE MICROSCOPE ITS HISTORY, CONSTRUCTION AND APPLICATION. It was published by Herbert Ingram & Co. in 1856. There are 457 pages including index with "upwards of five hundred engravings" 16 of which are plates, plus six pages of book advertisements. Additionally there is a 16 page illustrated catalogue with title page for "Achromatic Microscopes and Photographic Apparatus made and sold by C. Baker." The first part of this work is an introduction to the microscope and its proper operation; the second (pp. 129-451) illustrates the application of the microscope to the study of a variety of micro-organisms, as well as the features of a range of macroscopic plants and animals. A very popular guide, which went through 15 editions by 1898, by a prominent English ophthalmic surgeon. Condition is very good with bumping and wear to the extremities and one small piece of cloth missing from the spine. It has been skillfully rebacked and the original spine re-laid with new end pages added. The book block is in exceptional condition with bright unmarked pages entirely free of foxing which is unusual in a book of this age. Overall an exceptional copy of this rare edition of the most authoritative and popular reference of its time.
